Pretty sure "gallan" is "gallant," a type of sail. Agree.
mandc: "H" = hours from noon, and from midnight (clocks were "set" at noon); "K" = [speed] Knots; "F" = [water depth] Fathoms. First set of "H" are AM hours, second set PM hours.
I do not believe transcriber has transcribed in a meaningful way if you are trying to read a log, i.e., by time, speed, depth.
For example, the first line should be set up as follows:
