DESCRIPTION OF SPACES TO BE DECORATED

Hall - Promenade Deck

(a) Mural. In the center of the forward bulkhead above the fireplace there will be a mural approximately 7' wide and 10' high. The bottom line of the mural will be 4'10" above the deck.

MATERIALS AND MEDIUM

Carved or painted marinite, marine veneer or linoleum may be considered as materials for the decoration. Oil paints or colored lacquers may be considered as a medium. Tempera on gesso-grounded vehisote panel may also be used.

AMOUNT TO BE PAID

The amount to be paid for this decoration is $1,330.

SUBJECT

It has been suggested that as subject for this mural one of the ports of call of the cruise ship would be suitable. The harbors of New York City or of San Francisco have been suggested.

(b) Seven Spandrel Decorations. It is proposed to decorate the three spandrels on the port side and the three spandrels on the starboard side of the hall below the boat deck windows. Each spandrel is approximately 5'6" wide by 2'6" high. The bottom line of the spandrels is approximately 7'6" above the promenade deck. It is assumed that the decoration would be a vignette, approximately 3'6" wide by 2'6" high applied on this space.

On the aft side of the hall there is a curved spandrel between the upper and lower windows approximately 17' wide by 2'6" high. The vignette for this space is assumed to cover a space approximately 14' wide by 2'6" high.

MATERIALS AND MEDIUM

The advisability of executing all the decorations in the hall in the same material and medium has been considered but a different material or medium from that chosen for the over-mantle mural will be considered for the spandrel decorations. Wood carvings might be applied in these spaces or ceramic reliefs provided their jointing and method of attachment will not be affected by the vibration of the ship. Designs may also be submitted for the spandrel decorations in the medium and material suggested for the over-mantel mural.

AMOUNT TO BE PAID

$150.00 each will be paid for the decorations for the six spandrels and $600.00 will be paid for the curved spandrel decoration. The total amount to be paid for the seven spandrel decorations is $1,500.00.

Library - Promenade Deck

The marinite bulkheads in this space are faced with wood veneer. On the port bulkhead a mural decoration is proposed, 15'6" wide by 5'1" high. The bottom line of the decoration is 2'3" above the deck. A trough lighting fixture in the ceiling will light the decoration.

MATERIALS AND MEDIUM

The following materials and mediums have been considered for this decoration, carved or painted marinite, applied figures in bas relief in plastic material fixed
