1 FEDERAL WORKS AGENCY PUBLIC BUILDINGS ADMINISTRATION WASHINGTON OFFICER OF THE COMMISSIONER IN REPLYING, QUOTE THE ABOVE SUBJECT, BUILDING, AND THESE LETTERS FA November 5, 1940 Mr. Ben Shahn Jersey Homesteads Hightstown, New Jersey Dear Ben: I am delighted about your Social Security murals. By fortunate circumstances the Social Security Board is one of the nicest and most socially minded groups of people I have met. I know you will enjoy meeting them and discussing your murals with them. I have just come back from spending the morning talking with them about your murals. I am delighted they like them as well as I do and there is no doubt but what we can work out something which is satisfactory to all concerned and it is going to give you an opportunity which I think you, as well as I, will enjoy. I would like, if it is convenient to you, to have you come down say about Wednesday, the 13th, or Thursday, the 14th, or any day along there that would be best for you, and meet the Board and discuss the situation with them. There are a number of things I would like to talk over with you about our program as we are running into a few squalls. I won't go into detail now but I would like to talk it over with you and if you can arrange to come down next week let me know and I will arrange with the Social Security Board for you to meet with them. Cordially yours, Edward Bruce
