Mrs. Jacob Lawrence
4316 37 Avenue, NE
Seattle, Washington 98105

Dear Gwen:

Due to an error on the part of the National Gallery we were only paid partially for Lawrence's DAYBREAK A TIME TO REST, your tempera painting. Mr. Parkhurst came here himself last week with the partial payment to ex-plain how embarrassed the National Gallery felt by their mistake. As you know, the gallery policy is that the consignee or artist is paid when the gallery receives full payment for works sold. Mr. Parkhurst assured me the balance would be paid shortly.

I am sorry that you were upset. We have enclosed our check as well as an accounting.

We have been extremely busy here. The gallery has rented additional space in this building.

Regards from all of us to you and Jake.

Fondly,
Terry
