TAMARIND LITHOGRAPHY WORKSHOP, INC.

DETAILS OF FELLOWSHIPS - #5

18. Fellows may undertake such projects as livres de luxe or suites during their fellowships. However, Tamarind reserves the right to approve the quality of such collaborative outside services as may be provided by typographers and binders even though such services are the financial responsibility of the artist, not Tamarind. (Tamarind would not wish to compromise its standards by providing first class lithographs which then would appear in the context of inferior type and bindings.) In the event such a livre de luxe or suite is undertaken by an artist, Tamarind also shall have the right to ask for a colophon page to be included, which defines edition size, credits Tamarind (and all collaborating craftsmen) according to sample texts available on request. Tamarind's decisions re collaboration shall not be capricious but its Board of Directors shall be the final authority in case of controversy.

19. On arrival, fellows will be asked to participate in a Workshop conference with the Technical Director and the Associate Director to determine the technical problems involved in his plans, and to arrive at a collaborative relationship. The Technical Director will consult with the artist and his printer at all stages of the work, regarding graining, tusche strengths, etc. so as to eliminate basic errors in procedure or misunderstandings that could cause improper servicing of the work during printing, with consequent loss of works of art.

If possible, the prospective fellow should have a goal in mind for achievement during his stay. It is even desirable that he do some preliminary work so that his stay at Tamarind results in as productive an output as he could desire.

20. Fellows desiring to introduce papers unknown to the Workshop will be expected to abide by Workshop's decision should testing prove them unsuitable for lithography. A range of beautiful papers will be provided by the Workshop, and every effort will be made to accommodate to the desires of the artist should he have his own papers. Final right to reject a paper will rest with the Workshop.

21. Due to budget limitations, artists are expected to maintain their own work areas and tools. Everything necessary to the making of lithographs is provided at Tamarind, but artists who have favorite tools or supplies are requested to bring them.

22. The packing and shipping of completed editions is the responsibility of the artist. As soon as an edition is signed, responsibility for its care rests with the artist. Some artists prefer to ship their editions home as they are completed. Others prefer to have one crate made at the end of a grant. Tamarind does not have the staff for such purposes but will be glad to suggest a responsible packer.
