Dear Ms. Hilberry:

The presentation on public sculpture was, I feel, a success. I accomplished what I hoped to accomplish: I rekindled the committee's interest in collecting sculpture for interior and exterior sites. Obviously no decisions to purchase works can be made at this time. Enthusiasm, however, exists, and we are keeping material on Tony Smith on file.

The committee has been looking at the work of a number of sculptors, and it is certainly interested in the Smith pieces it has seen. Hesitation and deliberation is provoked not so much by the artists involved as by media. Many sculptors could eventually be represented in the collection, but Owens-Corning prefers to support sculptors working in materials relative to the company's products: fiberglass reinforced plastics, etc. Do you know if Mr. Smith has ever considered or would ever consider executing a work in plastics?

I am returning the photographs you very generously sent us and am sendning along my thanks for you time and help. I know we will look to you in the future as out sculpture project becomes more definite. Thank you, again.

Sincerely,

Patti Anderson
