At the Denver convention we gave Frank McConnell the necessary funds to attend the convention as our delegate, assuming that he would bring to the attention of the convention certain matters we wished cooperation with, instead according , to Indians who attended the convention he did nothing except try to work for his own personal gains. Then on retiring he had spent $3.00 of his own money after we had given him $55.00, he demanded that the Council pay him this $3.00? Just how small can people get.

I realize and so do you I think, that this man is not working for the good of the Indians and that the politicians in this town who wish the Indian divided, knowing that we can swing a vote here, are with him. It appears to me that we need a definite statement from the National Congress as to our standing with that organization, and if papers are being sent out by the National Congress why is not this matter being taken up with the Black Hills Indian Council. We would appreciate an early reply from your office as we stand alone trying to fight for our rights as American citizens and fighting the attempt to sell us down the river by these politicians who have remained in the background hoping that we will give up. Our programs and our defense for [[strikethru]]xxx[[/strikethru]] equality is a matter of record as it has been carried by newspapers all over this western area and I know that we have blocked many other attempts to keep the Indian down. You know as well as I do that we do have Indians who give the impression that they know it all and thereby fool the public but we have been able to expose these people and have thus warned the Indian in time so that we do have a solid block of upright Indian citizens whose purpose it is to help keep our people free, thereby keeping ourselves free.

May we hear from you promptly? A check of $25.00 is being sent to Ruth Bronson, Secretary as soon as our Secretary can make out the [[strikethru]] check ?? [[/strikethru]] check, this pays our membership for 1949.

Respectfully,

Eva J. Nichols - President
