Articles of Agreement
This is to show that I Frederick Scruggs (Freedman) and my wife Patsey have agreed and do hereby promise and obligate ourselves to work for E. L. Perkins untill the twentyfifth day of December next for twentyfive dollars per month, fifteen for myself and ten for my wife) and we agree to furnish our own clothes and pay our Dr's bill. We also agree to do good work, to rise early in the morning, makes fires feed the stock, get our breakfast, and get to work by a half an hour from sunrise, taking at twelve Oclock an hour in the winter, and one hour and a half in the summer to eat our dinner. and feed and rest ourselves and team. and working untill sun down. We further agree to do well and promptly whatever the said E. L. Perkins or his agent may require to be done on the premises, farm or elsewhere. We also agree that our lost time by sickness or idleness [[strikethrough]] or bad weather the time or when we are not engaged in working for the said E. L. Perkins [[/strikethrough]] shall be deducted, and we promise not to leave the premises of E. L. Perkins without his consent. We further agree to be respectful and polite to E. L. Perkins and his family.
The said E. L. Perkins on his part agrees to furnish our provision, (meat and bread), the Customary allowance for working hands, and any other article of provision or any articles of clothing furnished by the said E. L. Perkins, will he
