Dear Mr. Rainer:

Referring to the Convention Call, please be advised that I plan to attend for the full session. I have also arranged for our school ship, the MS Mount Edgecumbe, to pick a delegation from Juneau on the 22nd which will include Lester Roberts, Grand Secretary of the Alaska Native Brotherhood.

Since arriving in Alaska some four and a half months ago, I have had the opportunity to work with the local (Sitka) chapter of the ANB only, due to travel difficulties, distances, etc. The extent of our effort, however, has been limited mostly to communications to various members of the Senate and House concerning the Alaska Statehood Bill. Being at the "scene of action," I have been able to observe first hand how intensely we need to protect the rights of the Natives. I am glad that we have the backing of the organization headed by Mr. LaFarge, as well as the other fine groups who believe in justice.

Looking forward to a successful and well-attended convention, I am

Sincerely Yours,
Manford J. Weeks
