REPORT OF THE PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE BY MRS. HELEN L. PETERSON

At the 1949 Convention, the Public Relations Committee made its first report in the form of a proposed plan and program of public relations for the NCAI. This included ways and means of strengthening our local and national units by supplying members with basic information for starting, building and financing an effective organization. It also suggested ways for securing the sympathetic understanding and support of Indians and non-Indians in carrying out the total objectives of the NCAI.

INDIAN PERSONALITIES

While numbers of Indians appeared in the news last year, we mention two of our own NCAI leaders as symbols of good public relations: Mrs. Elizabeth Bender Roe Cloud was honored as the "American Mother of the Year" by the Golden Rule Foundation, and again, when she was appointed National Indian Welfare Chairman, in the General Federation of Women's Clubs. The story of Louis Bruce, Jr. in "What America Means to Me," was published in the September, 1949, AMERICAN MAGAZINE and later in THE READERS DIGEST and was read by millions.
