sterling is an alloy, so most likely, failure to enamel

more trouble not in first firing, but in subsequent firings

begins to break down after reaching 1500 F. 
in kiln, begins to liquidize at 1640F., whereas fine silver liquidizes at 1761 F

cleaning process same as in fine silver

colors not as brilliant as in fine silver
