No sculptor outside of St Gaudens and French need aply [[apply]] in Boston for any work unless it is by some extraordinary influence and that I have not in Boston. All work that goes out from Boston (for public monuments) is done by invitation and to these two men only and if they cannot do the work [[strikethrough]] they have their own [[/strikethrough]] they recommend their pupils. Sometime ago you sent me a B-Herald 'glowing description of Mr French' monument to Boyle O’Rylie [[O'Reilly]] of which I saw the original model in Chicago. All due credit for Mr French' good work which he has done as well as any American of today could do but his Boyle O’Rylie [[O'Reilly]] monument would not pass muster in the third class
