usually settle on how much he cares to pay for a thing before it's executed. In my case, I just couldn't make a living from hand weaving. I don't know anybody else who can either, really. There are a few people who eked out an existence.  The only way that I've managed to keep my group going at all is to take a retainer fee from industry, in my case yarn concerns, who need ideas for what to do with their products.

I'll see if Pat will give me some information about the Japanese point of view on money.

On the other hand, John Randolpf [[Randolph]], the head of the Associated Press Bureau in Tokyo, is married to a Japanese girl who has great taste. She sends me Christmas presents every now and then and we have a correspondence. I'll give you her name and address at the end of this letter and I think you could write to her about this, telling her very candidly what your problem is and how to solve it.

I'll add to this longhand, probably from Florida because I have to go down there on a job.
