objects from China and Japan. He was a collector of rare books, some of which he left to Mills College, the University of California and Stanford University. Those he left to me I have given to Yale. It was Albert who, in effect, tutored me in printing, a branch of art about which I knew very little until he took me in hand. 

A whole new world opened for me, and one closely related to my own interest in weaving and design. So many people in and around San Francisco were engaged in binding, printing and collecting rare books. In fact, the city is one of the great centers of the field of art and craftsmanship. Many of my new friends belonged to the California Book Club and the San Francisco Book Club. The famous Grabhorn Press did beautiful printing and beautiful typography keepsakes.
