calmly said, "... and Senor Rivera says that taking the main trends in Mexican art in recent years you find, etc. etc." She was well versed in Mexican culture and what she sail was both true and interesting. But she was quoting Rivera on something he had not said at all! Evidently he did not know he was, in effect, being "re-written" as he went along. Only those in the audience who understood both Spanish and english [[English]] were in a position to savor what must be regarded as one of the juiciest jokes in the annals of culture.

So I filled the days. I call this my "civic virtue" period. I hope I can truthfully say that I contributed in some measure to the efforts to make San Francisco a cultural center. I was well rewarded. The work increased my knowledge and understanding of fields of art related to the one in which I was to involve myself. I become acquainted with many interesting artists, AE, the poet, Roy Harris the composer, and Connie Canaga, the photographer.
