The architects, Ted and Jeanette Spencer, were friends of mine. They had asked me for suggestions in decorating it and I had had the pleasure of weaving some fabrics they used in the decor. Helen looked it over with an experienced eye. I discovered that she had impeccable taste. More than that, her originally and creative instincts were absolutely artesian. I have never known a more lively mond [[mind]]. So began a friendship, rewarding in so many ways, that has lasted all these years. 

Shortly after she returned to her home in Chicago, Helen telephoned. She was about to leave for Czechoslovakia on an assignment for the Corning Glass Corporation. Could I go with her?
