staff at the time was composed of Daren Pierce, the late Tammis Keefe, Esther Puccinelli, Katherine Geary, Gene Frost, Jocelyn Gibson, Kamma Zathraus, Jean Beauchamp, Marian Phal, Mary Hiatt, and of course, Ruth and Louisa and one of "Weezie's" pretty daughters, Vanita Fong. The reader will recognize a number of these as outstanding successes today in fields related to textile designing. They are among my "Alumni," and I am inordinately proud of them.

I also saw the beginning of a distinguished career. As my name became better known, amateur weavers often called on me, bringing their work. Usually, lacking the courage to give a candid opinion, I had little to say to them. But one obviously was no amateur, or would not remain so for long -- and there was little I could say to him, either. In a Los Angeles hotel one day, my secretary said a man named Jack Larsen wanted to show me his weaving.
