Mr. Robert T. Buck Jr.
Albright-Knox Art Gallery
Buffalo,
New York 14222

Dear Mr. Buck:

Last June, in response to a request from Mrs. Varian, you were kind enough to agree to lend us a painting by James Brooks for our forthcoming retrospective exhibition of works by that artist.

For reasons of budget, we have lately decided to limit our loan requests for this show to the New York area. This of course limits expensive shipping costs. However, please accept our thanks for your cooperation and generosity.

We have received a bill from your gallery for a photograph of a James Brooks' painting. We have no record of ever requesting or receiving such a photograph. Please check your records as to who requested it. We will be glad to pay it if the request did come from us.

We hope you will able to attend the opening of the Brooks' show on April 29th.

Sincerely,
Janet Katz
Assistant to the director
