8 October 1969

Mr. Robert Rauschenberg
381 Lafayette Street
New York, New York

Dear Mr. Rauschenberg,

As you know, the Cullberg Ballet has asked Merce to mount Night Wandering for them this fall for performance at the Festival de Danse in Paris on November 18, 20, 21, and 22. Our contract, asking that design royalties be negotiated directly with you, states:

Paragraph 10. The theatre may use Robert Rauschenberg's costume design for Night Wandering and shall negotiate directly with the artist, c/o the Castelli Gallery, 4 East 77th Street, New York City, regarding design royalties. The program for each performance shall include the following credit:

Design after the original by Robert Rauschenberg.

I believe royalties of $25.00 per performance were suggested for the Cullberg Ballet's rights to design for Summerspace in 1967.

Sincerely,

Lee Guilliatt
Assistant to Jean Rigg
