Dear Sir:-

I would respectfully ask for some position in the Freedman's Bureau where I can labor in behalf of that class of people. I called at your office but found you absent. Col. Easton instructed me to write out a brief statement of my antecedents with accompanying [[strikethrough]] se [[/strikethrough]] recommendations, which I herewith enclose.

I was born in N. Hampshire May 28, 1830, moved to Michigan in 1849 for the purpose of attending Michigan Central College, at which place I spent four years in study. Then went to Oberlin Ohio where I spent two years more in study, the last of which in the Theological Department.

Having rec'd the appointment of Tutor in Hillsdale College, Hillsdale, [[strikethrough]] College [[/strikethrough]] Michigan I spent two years there, & then went to Parsonsfield,
