Philadelphia Pa. June 3 1865

Dear Friend Fisk,
I am expecting to be mustered out of the service as paymaster before long and have made application to Gen. Howard for a situation as superintendent of colored schools. I have been teaching in the Lowell High school since graduation

A letter from you to the General would be of great service to me, as one of the commissioners is a friend of yours, Col Eaton. I saw T.S. Graves a day or two since at Washington. He is hale and hearty and doing a good work. Hoping this will find you well and happy.

I remain
your friend & classmate
John J. Colton

P.S. Please direct in care of Major Taggart P.M. U.S.A. Chief Paymaster Phil.
