Dear Sir,
Mr. John J. Colton informs me that he is an applicant for a position as Superintendent of Colored Schools in connection with the Freedmen's Bureau under your direction.

Mr. C. has been for several years quite a successful teacher in the High School of this city, which position he resigned a short time since to accept an appointment as Paymaster in the Army.

I do not know what peculiar qualifications may be necessary for the Superintendence of the Colored
