I desire to call your attention to the propriety of transferring my head quarters to Charleston. I have been informed that the head quarters of the Department of So. Ca. will soon be here in which event Beaufort will be a little out of the way. Augusta the true geographical centre of the two states is now the head quarters of the Department of Georgia. It can be reached from Charleston by rail as readily as it can from Savannah & there will very soon be communication by rail from Augusta to all the principal places in Georgia. Augusta is the
