2. Mike very nicely met me at airport and was interpreter for hotel hunting. As it turned out I think that "$5 a day" and I would have been better off alone - as he is even slower & more indecisive than me. But I am in a place 3 blocks (Rue de L'Eschaude) from Rue du Bonaparte (and Jean Paul Sartre) for 7.50 fr. a day- a nice way to save for 1 week. I can't stand the man who runs the hotel - today he disparaged my French when I asked him time by saying to men he was talking to "Spreche zie Deutsch" but his wife is sweet enough to compensate. They lock the door at 10 P.M- & 1st night when friend of Mike helped me with bags - at 10:30 - he created fuss about a man going up to my room - I managed somehow to silence him. Also he wanted week in advance- will surely move out on Tues. cause it is just a shade bit too depressing & much too noisy. But what a great location - in fact a wonderful exhibit of Max Ernst sculpture is only 3 doors away. Quite amusing after the distance to his work once being Chicago & New York. Friend of Mike's is nice boy - 21 again - writes & serious about it I think. He came over on virtually nothing & you should see his place for 4.50 fr. - quite awful - but a wonderful family restaurant 2 doors away with a good dinner for 2-3 fr. Was in the "Deux Magots" twice on Tuesday - once with Mike, once with his friend Henry. Henry is son of psychologist Munn - a college
