BERKELEY: DEPARTMENT OF ART

June 25, 1945

Professor Chiura Obata
540 Summit Av.
Webster Groves 19
Missouri

Dear Professor Obata:

I have been in communication with Provost Deutsch who is acting-president in the absence of President Sproul who is now in Moscow, Russia, regarding your appointment for the coming year. I personally had no communication from the Administration since our exchange of letters on the subject of your return until I found your name on the active list of the budget for the coming year.

I am delighted that the way is now prepared for your return. It is too late to think about your having classes for the summer term, for that begins in a week's time; but I hope you will be able to be with us for the fall and spring terms. The fall term begins October 25. I expect you would have three upper division sections as formerly. Would you let me hear from you; so that I can schedule times for you in the catalogue for which they are requesting proof within the next two or three weeks.

With best wishes to you,
Cordially,

Stephen C. Pepper
