The National Council on the Arts

More than a year ago, the NY Times answered my appointmt[[appointment]] by the President to the Board of the Kennedy Centre for the Performing Arts, an appointment which puzzled me and which [[strikethrough]] later [[\strikethrough]] I was informed later was an error resulting from some confusion in news releases. The incident was the cause of some embarrassment to them and to me.

Shortly afterwards I received a letter [[strikethrough]] were ask [[\strikethrough]] from your office asking me if I were available to serve on the advisory Board of the National Council on the Arts. Before I could reply to this letter, I received a phone call from you in which you asked me to serve [[strikethrough]]on such a [[/strikethrough]] in such a capacity. You explained that [[strikethrough]] you had suggested [[/strikethrough]] that such an appointment didnt[[didn't]] bear the prestige of a Presidential appointment, but that you had requested it since you thought that I might be more effective working with the Arts Council than with the Kennedy center. Needless to say, I agreed with you completely and stated my interest in serving with the Arts Council. You then outlined broadly, plans for several future meetings, [[strikethrough]] out that [[\strikethrough]] of which I would be notified. You [[strikethrough]] then [[\strikethrough]] also informed me that it would not be necessary to answer the original letter from your office; that you would fill in the details later.

Since your phone call was the last communication I have had from you, [[strikethrough]] I am curious to know whether plans of such an advisory board [[strikethrough]] were [[/strikethrough]] did not materialize or if they did materialize [[/strikethrough]]
