Dear Betty:

I had to leave New York before seeing you in order to take over a job in San Francisco that will pay my living expenses this winter.
I regretted leaving the Big City but means of survival were not terms which permitted me to work.

In a few days a young woman will call on you to pick up those old canvases which you have had ar [[strikethrough]] r [[/strikethrough]] ound the gallery. I would like to withdraw them from circulation. One of them is at least eight years old and represents a phase long since passed. If you will have your gallery boy strip the canvases from the stretchers and roll them in a bundle it will save labor. The young woman, Miss Garske, will mail the canvases and the paper to me.

As soon as I get some more pictures made I will see if any are appropriate for exhibition and will let you know. As for the present I am too concerned with the problem of basic
survival to know what the future plans will include.

I hope you had an excellent summer and that you have an exceptional year in your gallery.
Best of luck and best of wishes

Most sincerely yours
Clyfford Still
