THE STORY OF THE FILM

The picture opens in an employment office where men are signed up for work on a greenbelt project. A long line of men stands outside. Inside men shuffle restlessly on benches waiting to be interviewed by a personnel man. Each sits down to fill out an application blank. The questions asked on the blank furnish, one after other. The cue for a flash-back into the life of the man. For each of five men a different question serves to lead us back into his history, enables us to introduce these basic social ills which have made urgent the employment and the better housing of thousands. These pictures will represent cross-section of the lives of Americans of small income, will serve to show the backgrounds, not only of the men on this line, but also of those families of slightly better circumstances who will live in the greenbelt town.
