Dear Edna and Farley,

As you know, the paintings and watercolors were delivered to me several months ago; I do want to thank you for taking such good care of the work.

In your letter of August 21st, you wrote that the painting "Figures on the Beach - H" was being delivered to ADI San Francisco; that painting was not in the group of work returned to me. I understand from Clair that you are no longer associated with ADI San Francisco. How much influence you have with Steven Foster I do not know, but since it was ADI South who "lent" him the painting, I would suggest that Mr. Foster be notified by you of my concern for the missing painting.

I have engaged a San Francisco law firm to look after my interests but have asked them not to move until Mr. Foster has been given time to respond to my (and your) inquiries. I believe that two weeks is sufficient time for a reply from you and from Mr. Foster as to his intentions about the return of the painting or payment for it.

I am indeed sorry that this matter has put a strain on our relationship, for certainly your kindness to me during my visit is something I shall always remember.

Sincerely,

Robert Reid
