Dear Mr. Reid:

I regret to inform you that you were not nominated for a Guggenheim Fellowship.

This year, the Foundation has had to cope with a rise in the number of applicants without an increase in available funds. The Committee could select only 302 Fellows from 2953 applicants.

At their sessions, the Committee weighed the credentials and accomplishments of all applicants in the competition. They were assisted in this process by reports from expert jurors in each of the academic and scientific disciplines represented and in each of the creative fields. Decisions were difficult and reached after careful consideration of each case.

You submitted your application in good faith and we owe you the list of individuals selected by the Committee. This list will be sent you as soon as it is printed.

Sincerely yours,

JMathias
