ROBERT REID (Alonzo, Feb. 22-Mar. 11) is another artist concerned with time changes. He continues to explore his Figures on the Beach series. The Amagansset group traces the time cycle through the course of a day with its light and mood variations. Reid's basic language is using numbers and letters as forms, inhabiting his beach house with the sand and the sea. From dawn to the approaching darkness of evening, the forms leave and return to the beach house. We get closer and closer to its interior until finally arriving inside this haven, representing perhaps a spiritual shelter. The artist uses numbers like "8" or the letter "a" because of the movement and rhythms of their broken shapes. After living a day with these forms, they take on a life style close to us all. Searching the distant shore, wandering through the canvas, yearning to return at last to the peace and serenity of the shelter. JASON SCHOENER (Midtown, Jan. 18 66
