Mr. W.W. Short, President
N.C.A.I
Davis, Oklahoma

My dear Mr. Short:

Enclosed is the copy of Frank's "resignation" that you asked me to send to you. Mrs. Bronson has the original. 10-8-53 Decided to keep original in N.C.A. office

We got notice of the approval of the grant and I wrote them tonight asking them to send the check. We very much need to talk about the use of this money, and to agree upon its budgeting. Also, about how, and in what manner Frank may feel prior claims on it and attempt to collect.

Most serious, though, is the call from D'Arcy this morning. He had talked to Morris McCabe who said the Advisory Committee-- or Business Committee of the Navajo Tribal Council discussed the matter of the Navajo Tribal Council inviting the NCAI convention to Gallup; they won't do it. Now do we want to go there anyway? Are they apt to think we are going too far in courting their favor -- and membership? D'Arcy still favors the third week in November, in Salt Lake. Ruth would like to put it off at least until the middle of November, and preferably to the first week in December. D'Arcy says he thinks it might even be as late as the first week in December.

Personally, I don't see how the tribes can get their delegates' expenses authorized, and how we can get out some of the work we probably should try to get out before the convention, if we try to have it so soon.

D'Arcy said the Alvarado Hotel in Albuquerque could take us most any time in November. I supposed if we postpone it, the only alternative really are the third week in November (the fourth week being Thanksgiving) or the first week in December.

In any event, will you please call me the moment you get this letter? You can call the number above, collect, or, better yet, Ruth and I will try to call you when we are both here to talk. However, when you try to call me, just call the station collect, and if I shouldn't be in, I'll instruct Miss Pomeroy to say that she cannot accept collect messages, but will have me call as soon as I return. That way, we can save a little and you can still talk to me when you call. I may even try to call you tonight, though you did tell me you were leaving for two days, yesterday morning. Will look for a call from you. Most cordially,
