General.
I have the honor to state that H.H. Thompson Cashier of the National Bank. of New Berne N.C. cashed the Treasury Certificate (No 315. 339.) of William Little late Co H 35th Regt. U.S.C. Infantry, but as it was payable to order of Major Gen O.O. Howard, Mr Thompson is unable to collect the money. If you will send Vouchers for Little to sign, I will endeavor to find him (for his discharge is still in the hands of R.F. Lehman Attorney) and pay him in the presence of Mr Thompson who can then collect the money advanced. You need not send the check for the amount until the Vouchers are returned, as it may be possible that some time will elapse before I succeed in finding Little.
Very Respectfully.
