their own dead. In order to close out my hospitals the sick who were on my hands I am providing for in private families, paying the expenses therefor in cash, as I desired to close every door through which cities & counties were thrusting their poor & sick upon the charities of the Government.

I reported on Sept. 2d that Nine hundred and seventy nine (979) persons were subsisted by the Government within the state of Tennessee. I have the honor to report that during the month the entire number have been disposed of, and at this date not one ration is issued by the Freedmen's Bureau in Tennessee.

There were at the colored Refugee Home at Camp Nelson Ky on the 1st inst one thousand and forty five (1045) Women and Eleven
