be provided and supplied every week with 3 lbs of Bacon and 10 quarts of Corn Meal, or their equivalent in other provisions, all to be of good quality; other laborers not full hands to be furnished each week with one peck of Corn Meal and such amount of Meat as may be agreed on in the contract; and shall allow the Freedmen to cut and use all the necessary firewood to be used by them on the premises, all of which shall be allowed free of charge.

14. The employer shall also provide the adult non-laboring members of the Freedmen's families with one peck of corn meal for each one for each week, and to the children too young to labor, with a proper supply of corn meal needed for their subsistence, the expense of which shall be charged to and deducted from the wages of the laboring Freedmen connected with such families. He shall also provide the Freedmen, and their families with medicines, and proper attention during their sickness, to be paid for by, and deducted from the wages of the laboring Freedmen of such families.

15. The employer shall protect and bestow friendly care over the freedmen and their families, so long as they are engaged in his service, and refrain from inflicting any physical punishment, whenever any cause of complaint occurs, he shall make the same known in writing to the nearest local superintendent. He shall allow the local and general Superintendents of the Freedmen to visit them on his Plantation whenever they desire to do so, without interruption, but no other person shall be authorized to go on any plantation or farm without the owners consent.

16. A Superintendent shall be appointed by the Freedmens Bureau, to be located in each County or District of a State whose duty it shall be to examine and witness all contracts made with Freedmen laboring within the bounds of his
