of that county, writing to me on another subject incidentally refers to these Government Farms, and I have reason to think his statement is substantially true - He says "I am living directly between the two farms now occupied by the Colored people placed here by the Government; I have been very much annoyed by them passing and repassing through my fields, tramping on my crops, leaving my fences down and pilfering from my fields such as corn, turnips, melons, potatoes, cabbages, apples peaches &c. then are on these Farms at times 4 or 500 of these creatures hundreds of these idle and might be useful to themselves and the County if they would hire themselves out and work, but they will never do that I fear while the Government will ration them. It does seem to me that something ought to be done to stop such an expense to the Government; the two Farms used to be worked with 6 or 7 hands each and made larger crops by far than are made now."

Transcription Notes:
too many [[?]] to be marked for review 2nd Transcriber - redid mistakes, fixed [[?]]s - should be good for review 3rd Transcriber - looks pretty good. only issue is that i don't believe "hashing and rehashing" is correct (8th line) but unclear what the right words are 4th Transcriber - took out of review to add an "-s" to "refer" in the first line, and then changed "hashing" and "rehashing" to "passing" and "repassing"; "passing" was chosen because the first letter of the word as written matches how the letter "p" is written in other words in the article, such as in "potatoes"
