I have ordered that all signs of rations by officers of this Bureau in Missouri shall close at the end of this month. I believe that such arrangements have been made with the local authorities that no increased suffering will be the consequence.
I have also ordered that no rations be signed at Quincy, Hl by this Bureau after the 30th day of November, the government at that state and the local authorities have been advised of this action; there is about one hundred and fifty destitute freedwomen and children or that point who will have to be subsisted by charity during the winter; they are mainly the families of soldiers now in the army, who were credited to the state of Illinois, the government in appropriating the Hospital Building for their use has made ample provision for their shelter, the authorities and the benevolent people of the state ought and will it is hoped furnish them with food and fuel.
