was left in his hands, and he afterwards went away from Georgetown without doing anything in the premises. After many efforts by Mr Middleton's agents, a contract was at last executed before Samuel Wilson 1st Lieut. Co. K. Mo Vols & approved by J.R. Coats, Capt commanding the post which bears date the fourth day of October 1865, but which, it is respectfully submitted, should take effect, nunc pro tunc, as of the fifth day of July 1865.
Mr Middleton is willing and desirous that their just and full share of the crop produced on the said plantation shall be secured to the cultivators.
He has received a special pardon from the President of the United States, evidence whereof is herewith submitted.
The facts above set forth, of all which proof is herewith tendered, show, that the failure to have a contract executed within the prescribed time was not owing to any default on his part.
