Office of Superintendent of Contrabands
Cincinnati Mar 31st / 64
Sir
Since my last communication, Mr. Huffman of whom I was expecting to get the lease of land, according to his promise, has given me notice, that, owing to the opposition of members of his family, he must decline the lease. I have therefore sought and obtained promise of another tract, that I think will not fail. It is the land of Mr. Moreland, who will lease a part of the whole of a tract of 6,60/100 acres, at (20) twenty dollars per acre pr ann. The tract is abt 2 1/2 miles from the Court House in the city of Cincinnati. It is accessible by a McAdamized road, and abt 5 minutes walk from an hourly Omnibus running to the City.
The land is quite broken, but has two building sites, one of abt. one acre, and lying near the road, the other abt. three acres and only accessible by a lane opened from the turn of the road as will appear from the rough sketch accompanying this. The smaller tract, is also within abt. 100 yards of a perennial spring, capable by means of a hydraulic ram or a force pump of affording a full supply of water. I think this is as favorable as site as can be found.
Very respectfully your obd sevt
