Baltimore 18th Aug 1864

Joseph Hooper and William Gregory both of Baltimore, Md, being duly sworn each says that we on the 17 August inst went to a Mr Fowler Keeping a Shipping Office in Thames St Baltimore and told him we wanted to ship into the U.S. Navy for one year and asked him if he could fix everything right for us and get us all the Counties. He said he could do so  and would give us all that was right.  Then he carried us around to the Squiers Office - to take any oaths as to our qualifications and whether we were proper subjects for enlistment and we took the oath.   He then went with us to the Naval rendezvous to have us examined by the Surgeon.  We were then examined and were duly passed as proper subjects for enlistment.  We then took the oath required to Enter the Navy.  They then read the Articles and we signed them. He then got $50 for each of us he then gave us each a fit out in
