Friday July 2nd
All last night and all this day going by fast train to London, no sleeper but I am having a good time, nights are short. Unusual appetite while crossing channel, female passengers mostly sick. Reach London at 9 P.M. Edward Bitter greets me at Victoria station. shows me delightful hospitality at the "German Club".

Saturday July 3rd
Good sleep, feel well. Now for the live and good luck!
Well, well, here I am on the Mauretania! A wonder of a ship. I have only an inside cabin but I could give a reception in it. This ship dazzles me, the size of it, of every thing about it. For the present we are anchored waiting for the tide. The homeward stretch - I say it with both arms stretched out.

Sunday July 4th
Still wondering about the size of this ship, but otherwise too lazy to make any remarks. This morning at Queenstown I saw the green swards of Ireland for the first time. Later on we passed through the English battle ship fleet, but I missed the spectacle being asleep in the smoking room. I must have slept 20 out of the 24 hours since I came on board. Don't know a soul, seems rather uninteresting crowd of business people.

Monday July 5th
Nothing of interest happens; I am glad of it. Since I came on board I swallowed up two volumes of Ferd. Kellers "der grĂ¼ne Heinrich" and intend to go right on with the sequence. There was a Fourth of July celebration on board this evening, a great bore.
