Dear Emily and Burton:

The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum is planning to present an exhibition of works on paper which is scheduled to open on December 19, 1975 and to continue here until March 25,1976. The exhibition of approximately 150 works, selected by Diane Waldman, Curator of Exhibitions, will present an in-depth survey of twentieth century American drawings.

Major works will be selected to illustrate the fundamental changes that occurred in American art from the beginning of the twentieth century to the present. This exhibition, which will inaugurate the Bicentennial, will be accompanied by an illustrated catalogue with an essay and documentation on each artist included in the exhibition. We are requesting only the most distinctive examples for inclusion in this unique presentation. Among the works which we consider essential to a successful realization of the exhibition is:

Stuart Davis, Composition, c. 1930

We are, I assure you, aware of the responsibility that the custody of valuable and irreplaceable works places upon us and every precaution will be taken to safeguard the loans. The exhibition will be fully inusred, [[insured] at values indicated by the lenders, and details regarding transportation, assembling and dispersal will be meticulously supervised by our experienced staff. May I therefore urge you to give consideration to this request and to indicate your agreement at your earliest convenience so that we may forward to you our contract forms?

We hope very much that we may count upon your participation in order to assure a successful exhibition.

Yours very sincerely,

Tom
