Darling -

We arrived at 11 pm tonight, because my Washington hostess (not Mrs Mesta) is sick! And I could stay, but rather go on to N.Y. My mother is away for 2 wks, and I'll be staying at 930. To my surprise, the trip from Va. was nice,* & I wrote some not-bad poetry on the train, & drank beer with stock-brokers. All the war news is horrible, & the further East you go, the more scared the people seem. I am thinking about N.Y. & you. Don't forget my water-color, masonite board & canvas. Junk that sculpture. Lots of canned music in this station. Miss you very very much. Anxious to talk.

All my love - Your Helen.
