Clem dear - wish you were here, for a little reality and decent conversation. I've seen so much bad art so far -- except for Matisses at SFMA(*) and Hans H; going out to Berkeley today to see more of latter which I haven't seen in years. End of the day I have an opening of pictures; and the gallery (Berggruen) looks good, I think? Taking a week off's not a bad idea, and I'm going to L.A. from here for the weekend. Back home 20th. By that time your little (birthday) picture should be back at the studio framed, so let's make that an excuse to catch up. Let's go look at something good -- God, I'm so sick of hoofing it on 57th St & throughout America to see rotten art! How about a simple turn at the Frick or the Met? I'm sitting here looking out over that gray raw bay of S.F. & eating breakfast & feel I'd love to do that! Need it. Dresden's show here & there's such a line to see those awful jewels that I can't even get near the Titian. Be well. love, Helen.
