opening Oct. 19 in Abidjan - the Ivory Coast with 7 other painters We are suppose to be invited over 1 week - leaving Oct-16 - but so far its still up in the air. If it works out Cynthia & I will stay 2 weeks and move around a little bit - possibly the Upper Volta

Now that my CETA job is over and whatnot I hope to be able [[strikethrough]] and [[/strikethrough]] to get back to work. Expecting to teach at Montclair State College for a couple of weeks in January. I am the curatorial consultant for [[strikethrough]] th [[/strikethrough]] the "Black Expatriate Exhibition at the new Studio-Museum in 1982 - I set it up with Walter Williams & Sam Middleton & Cliff Jackson & Herb Gentry when we were in Europe 2 years ago. We are trying to raise more [[strikethrough]] more [[/strikethrough]] money - we got 20,000 but need another $25,000 to do an excellent job. I saw sculptor Chaim Gross at the opening at the Mets' 2000 years of Nigerian Art and he asked me to recommend some people for the National Institute & Arts & Letters Grant. I gave him 3 names which he put in. I [[strikethrough]] fett [[/strikethrough]] felt very honored to be asked - and also to be abled to give some young people some hope. I sold a painting to the people from the Ivory Coast before the things left - so I had to put in another painting going over.

Jake - Cynthia & I wondered if I would trade a print (print) with you as I have a number of things on my wall - of yours. I have black & white poster from your Nigerian Exhibition in 1964-5. When you wrote those kind words in my 1973 catalog I sent you a few prints (2). If you consent - maybe you can give me those names - so I wouldn't send you what you already have. I would be glad to exchange 2-3 of my prints for one of yours. I participated with some other artist at the Congress Gallery during the filming of Bearden's film. Talked to Ernie Crichlow the other day. Last week Ed. Clark had a retrospective (33 years) at the Studio Museum in Harlem. Saw Earl Melton there. Mel Edwards (sculptor) just left for East Africa for a State Dept. tour. Well its starting to get cold here - had a long hot summer. Hope things work out and I can get out of here. Dr. Ken Clark is going to assist me in fund raising for Expatriate [[strikethrough]] shoo [[/strikethrough]] show.

Cynthia sends her love to you both - give Gwen a hug for me

as ever Vince
