Mr. Joseph Cornell
3708 Utopia Parkway
Flushing 58, New York

Dear Mr. Cornell:

Here is a request for information about your interest in the Dance. I think it best that you reply to this directly, unless you prefer not to.

We enclose payment for the sale of Puzzle of the Reward, #1 to Mr. Felix Landau for $900, and for the sale of La Physique to Stephen D. Paine of Boston. La Physique had been taken on approval by The Museum of Modern Art, but was returned to them. Mr. Paine, as you will see by our previous list to you, was to have paid 1000 for La Physique. He has chosen to send us a check for $900 without any previous discussion, stating that he feels entitled to a discount of ten per cent. I disagree with him, but after returning the check and having it returned to me, have decided, on my lawyer's advice, to deposit the check for $900 since "a bird in the hand.....," etc. We have sent Mr. Paine another statement demanding the $100 due, but are told that he has departed for Europe. Meanwhile, we send two-thirds of $900 received. In the event that we do receive the other $100, we shall send you two-thirds of that amount at once.

I do not mean to burden you with these details, but one is al always having trouble with collectors about paying for things.

Regards,

Robert Schoelkopf
