I was invited to talk about myself, my work,  [[strikethrough]] but especially [[/strikethrough]] about my ideas on art of today, and if I don't talk too much I hope to have time to show slides of some of my paintings and discuss them with you. I shall talk as an artist, not in the ceremonial language of art critics, art historians, museum directors, etc.
  
I am a N.Y. painter. All my work has been done in this city which is enormous enough and full of interest enough to be my country, my world. It is of course known to you that I am a representational painter and was never tempted,[[strikethrough]] like some of my contemporaries, [[/strikethrough]] to turn to abstract art. There [[strikethrough]] were [[/strikethrough]] are some realists who were affected by this tendency. Isabel Bishop, in my opinion, is one of them, without losing her grip on reality. Edward Hopper, in one or two of his last pictures became even more aware of just pure space.
