The steamer, it was slow, I mean every body was so very quiet and not at all as lively as usual, two very pleasant ladies admiral's & captains wives of the German navy, sat at our table they were very pleasant and interesting telling us about their trip to China Japan etc. we had a very pleasant time with them.

We invited Hays Ascherson, the youngest had the measles and we could not go to see them which was very sad, they were staying in the neighborhood of Logsback you remember our drive over it dont you five years ago- Mama & Papa went down but unfortunately it rained all afternoon and they could not go out driving - were at the Hotel to see the procession and all enjoyed it immensely, but it was too bad the Emperor was so small, at least he sank way down in his seat which was a great shame, the crowd was interesting to watch, and the scoths gard looked very picturesque, they
