NOV-22-88 TUE 15:33 BEVERLY PEPPER, NEW YORK P.03

Dear _______,

I am writing in regard to a sculptural installation by Beverly Pepper located at the Richard J. Hughes Justice Complex in Trenton, New Jersey.

This sculpture is made of cast ductile iron, a metal used both industrially and in sculptural fabrication. While we have no doubt as to the long term integrity of cast ductile iron, these works were bolted into place at strategic points using high quality carbon steel bolts. Research would suggest that it is highly advisable to make periodic checks as to the integrity of these bolts. Since this work was installed in 1981, we would like to stress the importance of a quality control check-up as this time.

As the owner of a major work of art in a public space, you should be concerned as to the condition of your sculpture. May we suggest that you arrange an inspection of the work to ascertain the current condition of the metal studs and welds of the work.

We also recommend that a consistent program of yearly check-ups should be integrated into the work's general maintenance schedule.
