Hammersley's work is represented in many museums and private collections. He was especially pleased to have 6 of his paintings purchased by the Albuquerque museum, ranging from an early still life, a self-portrait, one work from the 1959 show in California, and three others.

A surprise come now ... the last week of October will see a first, anywhere, taking place in the Hoshour gallery on 2nd street. It concerns a problem that painters have talked about for years. It is about gallery openings. These are events in which people come to see friends, drink wine, and talk. It is a social event. The paintings play second best. They are seldom looked at. They become visual musak. This opening, this first, is an attempt to solve that delemma. On Tuesday evening, October 28th, 1986, 5:30 to 7:30 there will be at the Hoshour gallery a ... PRE view, that is - a social event will occur before the paintings are put on view. The public, friends, collectors are invited to come see the artist, drink wine, and chat. There will be no paintings on view, only nails and titles will be visible. The actual viewing of the paintings will take place the next day - Wednesday the 29th ... when it is quiet and the viewer can see the work at his leisure with the minimum of interruption. I think a bit of art history is being made this month.
